Time to Start Thinking About the Halloween Pumpkin

Oh it’s that time of year again, when I begin to start thinking about Halloween. Halloween is my favorite holiday, and nothing is better. I am not fond of Xmas, New Years is alright, Easter only holds me for the candy as I am not a X-ian. And having a significant who is Native American, Thanksgiving has an entirely different meaning. So Halloween and New Years are my two holidays. Therefore, I try to do Halloween up right.

This year we have a misty cauldron, some spooky decorations, and I want to carve a pumpkin in about a week and a half. That is why I have been looking over carved pumpkins today to see what is out there, and if there is any I want to emulate in my own way. I was thinking of making maybe a creepy Victorian Mansion, since I like creepy Victorian Mansions, and probably will do one. But the most interesting thing I found was a Death Star pumpkin. It was very cool, but probably not one I would have the patience for this year to try to recreate.

Oh well, I will be getting the pumpkins next week. One to carve and one to roast. I love roasted pumpkin in my roasted veggies, which is a dish that always makes me think of harvest time, which is also my favorite time of the year. Only two more weeks. Woot!

Deadlands: Hell On Earth

I have just moved as I said, and have been in the mood to dust off the old books and start running a campaign now that I have some folks interested in sitting around a table. I also am going to try and run a game at a local game store to try and drum up a few more people to come in and help keep them open. The economy seems to have gotten rougher for the rpg’s and comic book stores as well.

Well I asked a couple of the players and they decided on Hell On Earth. So I am rereading the Wasted West and thinking up some ideas for the to players I have so far. One is a Librarian and the other is a Junker. I am hoping to get a few more players and have a more rounded group, but if I don’t then I can have some fun with them anyway. There is always ways to beef up or tone down a story line.

The interesting thing; however, is when I was talking about HoE one of my players 8 year old wanted to play, and I told them that I would run something different for the kids, as I am not sure that you can tone down Deadlands to a kid safe game without losing all the essence that makes it a Western Horror. The 8 year old was quick to point out that it was just a game, which I thought was pretty funny, but I still ixnayed an 8 year old at my Deadlands table, as I also wouldn’t not run kids through a game of Cuthulu. But that is a good question to consider. I don’t want to be in trouble if they have to sleep with the parents for a few days.

Rainy Day in Southern Jersey

It is a rainy gray day in Southern Jersey. I have recently moved here, and everywhere I go people ask me why I was moving there, and now they are asking me why I moved to Jersey. From what I can see Jersey isn’t that bad. I bit more chilly than I like at the moment, but I have another four or five months of that.

Southern Jersey where I am staying has trees and grass, and looks nothing like a suburb of NYC. I can be at the ocean in about 10 to 20 minutes and can gamble if I want to in about half an hour depending on traffic. I can be in Philly in an hour or so, DC and NY in about three. So in certain regards it feels like I kinda have the best of all the worlds going on. I get nature which I love, and it is not horrid trip to get to nice big towns with alot of history and all around fun things to do if I am in the mood to go more urban. The only problem is getting the money to do so. But I will be working on that as well.
